Our Staff:
Robert R. "Bob" Hackman 1931 ~ 1983 Bob was born and raised in White Pigeon, Michigan and graduated from White Pigeon High School in 1949. He attended Ferris State College in Big Rapids, Michigan where he was a member of the football team and graduated from Indiana School of Mortuary Science, Indianapolis, Indiana in 1953. Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Army earning the rank of Sergeant. He was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis and had served on many city and community boards including the Sturgis School Board which at the time of his death he held the position of vice president. He was married to Barbara and they had two sons; Steve and Greg.
Barbara A. Hackman 1935 ~ 2010 Barbara was a lifelong resident of Sturgis and a graduate of Sturgis High School in 1953. She attended Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo and was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. Barbara assumed the leadership role of the firm in 1983 after her husband’s death. She loved soaking in the sunshine at her lake home on Big Fish Lake and spending time with her three grandchildren; Chris, Beth and Sarah. Barbara and Bob are survived by their two sons; Steve and Greg.
Gregory B. Hackman, President Greg is a lifelong resident of Sturgis and a graduate of Sturgis High School in 1980. He attended Glen Oaks Community College in Centreville and graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science, Chicago, Illinois in 1984. He is licensed in Michigan and Indiana. Greg is a member of the Michigan Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors Association and the Selected Independent Funeral Homes. He is a member of the Holy Angels Catholic Church and has served on city and county boards. He is married to Amy and has one daughter; Sarah.
Steven R. Hackman, Treasurer Steve is a lifelong Sturgis resident and graduate of Sturgis High School in 1978. He attended Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan. Steve is a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. He is also very active in Boy Scouts of America and loves his 2005 Ford Mustang GT convertible. He is married to Colleen and they have a son Christopher, daughter; Bethany, Chocolate Lab; Suzie and Cat Stormy.
David J. Roberts, Manager, Funeral Director David was born in Estherville, Iowa and graduated from Estherville High School in 1986. He graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago, Illinois in 1991 and moved to Sturgis following his graduation. David is licensed in Michigan and Indiana and certified as a pre-planning consultant. David is a member of Michigan Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors Association, Elks Lodge #1381 and the local H.O.G. chapter. He is married to Lenea and they have three sons; Damian, Joshua and Jesse.
Colleen L. Hackman, Monument Sales and support staff Colleen was born in Sturgis and raised in LaGrange County, Indiana graduating from Lakeland High School in LaGrange, Indiana in 1981. She also graduated from Glen Oak Community College in Centreville, Michigan in 1983 receiving her Associates of Arts Degree. Colleen has a true artistic gift and enjoys helping families design personalized monuments and markers. She also enjoys, walking and scrapbooking. She is married to Steve and they have a son Christopher, daughter; Bethany, Chocolate Lab; Suzie and Cat Stormy.
Larry Patterson, Support Staff Larry came to Sturgis in 1960 from Britton, Michigan where he graduated from high school in 1956. He then attended and graduated from Adrian College in Adrian, Michigan receiving a Bachelors degree in Speech and Drama in 1960. He continued his education at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo where he received his Master’s Degree in Drama and Speech in 1967. Larry taught at Sturgis High School for many years where he directed all the plays, musicals and Variety shows. He stays active working for the City of Sturgis and the Sturgis Chamber of Commerce, producing and directing variety shows and musicals. He has received several awards for his work in the arts including special recognition from Governor Jennifer Granholm for producing 100 shows for the community. Larry is a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. He is married to Julie and they have 2 daughters, Kelli and Amy.
James R. "Jim" Rice Support Staff Jim is a lifelong Sturgis resident and graduated from Sturgis High School in 1951. He attended Glen Oaks Community College and taught banking classes at the college part-time. Jim retired from retail sales and banking. He joined the funeral home in 2001 following his retirement. Jim is a past member and officer of the Sturgis Kiwanis Club, the Gideon’s International and served on the local School Board Advisory Committee and the Human Development Curriculum Committee. Jim is an active member of the Sturgis Wesleyan Church. He is married to Norma and they have two sons; Ronald and Randy, one daughter; Raejean and six grandchildren.
Denise Belligano, Support Staff Denise has lived in the Sturgis area most of her life, graduating from Sturgis High School in 1979. She attended Kellogg Community College for one year and has taken several banking and financial courses. She is married to Don and they have two married daughters; Karrisa and Tasia, two grandsons; Brennan and Gage and a boxer names Jersey. Denise enjoys reading, walking, spending time with her entire family and spoiling her two grandsons.
Calvin Hackman, Support Staff Cal is a retired teacher from the White Pigeon school system, where he is a lifelong resident and he lives with his wife, Theresa. They have two grown children, Eric and Bridget, and four grandkids, Oscar, Benjamin, Cynthia and Marcus. Cal taught elementary school for 26 years and coached baseball, basketball and softball. Cal is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force earning the rank of Sergeant. He loves to play golf and is a “die hard” Cubs fan. Cal and Theresa have wintered in Gulf Shores, Alabama for several years and each year look forward to getting away from the cold weather.
George Letts, Support Staff George has been a resident of the Sturgis area the past 40 years. After graduating from Coldwater High School in 1957, he attended Western Michigan University for 2 ½ years in the Drafting and Design Associate program. He graduated from Spring Arbor College with a BA in Business Management in 1988. George is a veteran of the U.S. Army Armor Division earning the rank of Specialist 4th Class. George is retired and is a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church where he is active with the Knights of Columbus. He is currently serving as a Trustee on the Burr oak Township Board and is a member of the Doyle Community Center Board. George is also a member of the St. Joe County F.O.P. He resides in Sturgis with his wife Catherine.
L. Robert “Bob” Kline, Support Staff Bob is a lifelong resident of Sturgis and a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1944. He attended Anderson College and Argubright Business College and was involved in Banking in Sturgis for forty years retiring in 1991. Bob is a veteran of WWII serving as a Chaplin’s Assistant in the U.S. Army Air Corp. and was stationed in Germany and France. Bob has always been involved in the community and has served on several committees and boards including the Sturgis School Board where he is a past president. He is a member of Neuman-Wenzel Post #73 American legion, Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and B.P.O.E. Elks #1381. Bob has a daughter; Jodie, son; Jeff and four grandchildren; Katie, Chris, Doug and Scott.
Larry Wallman, Clergy and Support Staff Larry is a lifelong Sturgis resident and a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1959. Following forty years of employment with the Sturgis Journal he retired in January of 2006. Larry had also served as pastor of a local Bible church from 1981-1987. He is presently an active member of the Factoryville Bible Church. Larry joined the funeral home staff in April of 2006. He is married to Judy and they have two children, Holly and Mark. |
