Obituary for Clifford "Cliff" Sherman Jr.

Clifford “Cliff” K. Sherman Jr., age 95, of Sturgis, MI passed away Sunday, February 25, 2018 in Bremen, IN.
He was born May 7, 1922 in Coldwater, MI a son to the late Clifford Sr. and Neva O. (Linsey) Sherman.
Cliff graduated from Coldwater High School with the class of 1940. The family moved from Coldwater to Kendallville, IN, back to Coldwater, to Albion, MI, Tekonsha, MI, Homer, MI, back to Coldwater and to Sturgis in 1955.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, earning the rank of Staff Sgt. His enlistment was from Oct. 1942 – Nov. 1945, two years in Africa and Italy. He worked on Airborne Radar in B-17’s and B24’s during WWII.
On Sept. 2, 1945 in Coldwater, MI he married Jeannette G. Smith. She preceded him in death Dec. 26, 2015.
Cliff retired from Ross Labs in Sturgis where he worked from 1957 – 1984. He previously was employed as a truck driver hauling freight, ice, and cars for many different owners.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he held positions of Deacon for 9 years and Trustee for 3 years. He was also a member of Crime Stoppers, 4-H member 20 plus years, Sturgis Senior Center where he was secretary and president for 2 years, Sturgis ARCH Workshop, worked the Miss Sturgis Pageant 15 plus years as stage hand, and was named Citizen of the Year in Sturgis in 1999. He has also written two books, one printed (#1 My World War II Memories and #2 My Life).
His Masonic memberships include 52 plus years of Sturgis Masons where he was Master twice, unofficial Lodge Education Officer, DDI two years, Secretary two years, and initiated several projects for the Fraternity. He was a member of the Scottish Rite and became 32 degree Mason, member of the York Rite, Blue Lodge #49, member of the RAM #26, Commandary#18 (Knights Templar), fire truck brigade, DeMolay Advisor, and member of the Sturgis Elks Lodge.
Surviving are two daughters: Carol Ann (Richard) Shutt of Hillsboro, KY and Nancy Kay (Ed) Becher of Sturgis, MI; 1 grandson: Jason (Lisa) Miller of Whiting, IN; 1 great-grandson: Noah Miller; and 1 sister: Sonya.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Jeanette; a brother: Gene; 2 sisters: Eva and Charlotte; and an infant sister: Thelma.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 2:00 – 4:00 & 6:00 -8:00 P.M., Wednesday at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091.
A Masonic Service will be held at 7:30 P.M., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Services celebrating the life of Clifford K. Sherman Jr. will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis with The Rev. Michael Wicks, officiating.
Graveside service and interment will take place at 1:30 P.M., Thursday, at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI.
Memorial donations may be directed to Shriners Hospital for Children, 2211 N. Oak Park Ave, Chicago, IL 60707.
