Obituary for Lavern T. Pelcher

Lavern T. Pelcher age 79 of Shipshewana, Indiana passed away unexpectedly Friday evening March 9, 2018 at the Sturgis Hospital Emergency Room.
He was born October 3, 1938 in Mount Pleasant, Michigan son of the late Toolie and Nellie (Peters) Pelcher.
Lavern resided in Shipshewana for the past 27 years coming from Mount Pleasant. On November 24, 1990 he married Ruth Bailey in Mount Pleasant.
Lavern retired from Mark Line Industries in Bristol, Indiana following over 20 years of dedicated employment. He had also worked as a school bus driver for many years.
He was a member of the Christian Fellowship center in Sturgis and the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe. Lavern enjoyed crossword puzzles, watch old western movies and his dogs and loved time spent with family.
He was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War earning the rank of SP-4.
He is survived by his wife: Ruth; one step-daughter: Brenda (Chuck) Miller of Bristol, Indiana; two step-sons: Robert (Dawn) Bates of Middlebury, Indiana and Thomas Bates of Bristol, Indiana; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; four sisters: Susan (Steven) Bettistea, Cindy (Brian) Quigno, Lindy Hunt and Louise Hunt all of Mount Pleasant; one brother: Duane Pelcher of Mount Pleasant and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:30 P.M. Wednesday at the Christian Fellowship Center, 201 North St. in Sturgis where funeral services celebrating the life of Lavern Pelcher will begin at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday. The Rev. Glenn Middleton will officiate. Mr. Pelcher will be transported to Mount Pleasant where the family will receive friends Saturday from 12:00 P.M.- until the time of the service at 2:00 P.M. at the Tribal Gym, 7070 E. Broadway, Mount Pleasant, MI 48855. Burial will follow the services at the Woodland Cemetery in Mount Pleasant where full military honors will be conferred. A luncheon will follow the committal service at the Tribal Gym.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331.
Memorial donations would be appreciated to Middleton Ministries, 201 North St., Sturgis, MI 49091.
