Obituary for Tyler James Hinken

Seaman Tyler James Hinken age 20 of Sturgis, Michigan passed away Saturday morning, October 14, 2017 in Nephi, Utah due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident while traveling home on leave.
He was born July 17, 1997 in Sturgis, Michigan.
Tyler resided most of his life in Sturgis and Burr Oak and was a graduate of Burr Oak High School with the class or 2015 where he excelled in athletics playing football, baseball, basketball and a runner on the track team.
Tyler was currently serving his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Harpers Ferry, stationed in San Diego, California.
He attended the Riverside Church in Three Rivers. Tyler will forever be remembered for his giving heart. He was truly most happy when he was helping others. A few of his many involvements and the volunteering of his time included coaching the Miracle Baseball League and helping special needs children. He enjoyed his internship with the Bronson Police Department before entering the Navy and he loved time spent with family and friends.
He is survived by his parents: Jami and Cary Winther of Sturgis and Dock and Naomi Spicer of Leonidas; three sisters: Emma Winther, Alyssa Hinken and Kayla Winther; one brother: Cory Winther; nephew: Kolton August James Hinken; grandparents: Pamela and Steven Johnson of Sturgis and James and Linda Hinken of Elkhart, Indiana and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by grandparents: Jay and Yvette Winther.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-3284. Funeral services celebrating and honoring the life of Tyler James Hinken will be held at 3:00 P.M. Friday at the Radiant Life Church, 907 N. Nottawa St. in Sturgis. The Rev. Glenn Russell will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis where full military honors will be conferred by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
The family asks in lieu of flowers and in honoring Tyler’s gift of giving to others that those able please give blood and if desired memorial donations be directed to the American Red Cross, 1800 E. Grand River Ave., Lansing, MI 48912.
